WELCOME!
We are excited that you will be joining us soon and we hope thatyou will accept our invitation to the First Year Student-AthleteOrientation on Saturday and Sunday, September20-21. The program will provide information about theUChicago athletic experience and will offer you and yourson/daughter the opportunity to meet other incomingstudent-athletes and parents.
A full list of activities will be available online later thissummer. Saturday programming will be in the afternoon from 1:00 to5:00 PM. Activities on Sunday will only be in the morning from 9:30to 12:00 PM. Most of the programming is for the student-athletesexclusively.
Fall teams will report in August, so their participation in thisprogram will be limited due to competition commitments, but theywill receive some targeted orientation and programming prior tothis event. All fall team first years who don't have teamcommitments and are able to participate in this program on Saturdayand/or Sunday are encouraged to do so.
Important dates and information:
STUDENT-ATHLETES:
- Register by August 1 to ensure that we canaccommodate you.
- On Saturday, September 20, move-in will befrom 8:00 to 11:00 AM ONLY.
- Registering for the Orientation means that you are 'all-in.'Attendance at the events is mandatory. Coaches will be your primarycontact at the activities.
- We want this to be fun! There will be some serious moments ofdiscussion, but mostly it will be fun activities that will allowyou to get to know your athlete-classmates.
PARENTS:
Please attend a panel discussion on Saturday led by some of ourseasoned coaches and me. It should be informative and an excellentopportunity to ask any lingering questions you may have. We alsowelcome you to join us for lunch and the soccer games on Saturdayand breakfast on Sunday.
Fall Sport Parents: Most fall teams arecompeting on Saturday (Men's and Women's Soccer are HOME) and theywill join the activities on Sunday morning unless they are stillcompeting. You are welcome to join the panel discussion on Saturdayif you are here. The timing of it will be between the soccer games.Otherwise, please join us on Sunday morning along with your childif you and he/she are able.
This is an exciting time for everyone but it can also be anunsettling transition with all of the unknowns and new experiencesahead of you. This Orientation to Athletics is a perfectopportunity to ease into this transition before the generalUniversity Orientation. We believe you will find some comfort inthe wonderful community of student-athletes, coaches andadministrators who will be important contributors to yourcollegiate experience.
